Zinduka Centre For Women opens in Njiro
The blessing of our women’s centre in Njiro, Tanzania on March
25, 2004 was a dream come true. The name of the centre is “Zinduka,” which
means “Awakening.” The four-story building will be a social
and training centre for women and girls of Arusha.
The sisters have been working with these women for a year, and now
there are 13 women’s groups organised by Sister Mary Rashmi Meptappally.
The groups worked together to create their own arts and crafts projects,
which were displayed in the new centre and made available for purchasing.
A number of awareness programs and seminars on issues concerning women
have also been made available. There are more activities planned for
the future.
Special “kangas,” coloured cloths, which the African women
wrap around themselves, were prepared. These have the Zinduka logo on
them and the words “Notre Dame Women’s Centre.” The
women are very proud of these “kangas” for they will identify
them as members of Zinduka and also advertise our centre. It is the greatest
joy to see new dreams being realized after much hard work. Many good
people have helped us in so many ways.
