After-school program helps children of poor district
The Sisters of Notre Dame of the Passo Fundo
province bought a house near our
Rainha dos Apóstolos School, in a poor section in the outskirts of São
Paulo, SP. Under the direction of a sister, with help from lay collaborators
hired by the school, about 130 children from public schools come for after-school
care and help with their schoolwork. The children receive lunch and have an
opportunity for sports. There are also activities for elderly people, including
a choir.
Our students from Rainha do Apóstolos School, accompanied by a teacher,
provide entertaining activities for the children in the after-school program.
The students’ families and our local community are involved in this outreach
to the poor and provide donations to defray costs.
