About us:
On April 7, 1923, full of trust and courage, nine Sisters of Notre Dame left
the motherhouse in Mülhausen for Brazil. A vast missionary field was opening
up in Brazil, while the growing power of National Socialism was closing Catholic
schools in Germany. As a result, additional groups of sisters came to Brazil
in the following years. A total of 178 sisters arrived in Brazil as missionaries.
Presently the sisters of the Passo Fundo province minister in the states of
Acre, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Distrito
Federal. In 1992 the sisters opened a mission in Mozambique, Africa.
We share our charism and work to fulfill our
mission by our ministry in a vast field of educational-pastoral work in schools,
hospitals, parishes
and in social
work. After the Second Vatican Council and the conferences of Medellin, Puebla
and St. Domingo, the province became more involved with the commitment of
the local Church to ministry with the poor. Today we minister in 13 dioceses
