Providing a home for those in need
The Sisters of Notre Dame in the Incheon, South Korean
province opened
a group home for the elderly on April 16, 2001. Two elderly women were accepted
as the first residents and two more came four days later. These women do
not have any immediate family members to care for them. The sisters try
to
make the atmosphere as homelike as possible, taking care of them until
they die. Short-term care is also available. The only admission requirements
are that the residents are able to take care of themselves to some extent
and do not have any contagious disease. A priest who is a friend of the
sisters
purchased the house to serve as the group home for the elderly. The residents
pay no fee. The sisters raise money through their province development
office to cover expenses.
