With geographical and cultural differences, how do nearly 2,500 Sisters of
Notre Dame remain united? It takes effort, but the richness of diversity and
the adaptation to current needs more than repay the challenges. Visits to all
the provinces by our leadership teams, international gatherings, exchange of
personnel, the use of various means of communication technology, and a common
way of life help us to express our charism in a shared vision. Those preparing
for profession of perpetual vows spend time living at our congregational center
in Rome, Italy, and visiting places where our congregation began. Sisters may
make pilgrimages to these places, giving them the opportunity to meet many
Sisters of Notre Dame from various countries. Those engaged in study or renewal
programs abroad are warmly welcomed and live with our sisters in the area.
One advantage of our unity is to make the best use of the community’s
gifts, personnel, and resources for Christ’s work everywhere. As an apostolic community, committed to our mission, we respond to the needs of the times and share God's compassionate love with people of all faiths and cultures, particularly those who are poor and marginalized.
