 J Soediyati was the youngest of eight children born to Soedajat and Latifah. She was educated and raised in a Muslim family. Feeling called to being a Catholic, J Soediyati was baptized on December 23, 1968, at St. Joannes Church, Kudus, Central Java, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on August 5, 1969, at the same church.

J Soediyati felt that God called her to be a sister. On November 10, 1971, she entered as a postulant of the Sisters of Notre Dame in Pekalongan. At investment, J Soediyati received the name Sister Maria Yosefa. During her formation, she further developed her Religious life. Her growth in maturity as a Religious gave her the courage to make her perpetual profession on March 07, 1982.

Throughout her life, Sister mainly ministered in education in various SND schools. Sister was also a pioneer of Notre Dame School Jakarta, the principal of Notre Dame Junior High School, and the Santa Maria Foundation Chairperson. Sister has worked at the lay-owned RICCI School in Jakarta. Besides education, Sister was also on the Budi Rahayu Hospital Foundation board in Pekalongan. She continued her studies and graduated with a bachelor of counseling at Atma Jaya University Jakarta. Sister M. Yosefa was open to great responsibilities for which she served as provincial superior from 1999 to 2005. After completing her term as provincial superior, she chose to minister as an SND missionary in Guimaras, Philippines, which she did for 14 years.

In 2019 Sister returned to Indonesia due to her health condition and continued her treatment in Indonesia. After she recovered, Sister ministered at St. Mikael Warak High School in Yogyakarta. In 2021 Sister moved to Jakarta as the local superior of the Notre Dame Community. Many Sisters knew Sister Maria Yosefa as a person who was caring, wise, and prayerful.

In October 2022, Sister was infected with Covid, which caused her health to decline. Sister M. Yosefa also had kidney and heart disease for a long time. She always had routine checks at Carolus Hospital in Jakarta. On December 01, she went for a check-up at Carolus Hospital, resulting in a diagnosis of kidney problems and hypertension. Her condition was declining in the early morning of December 03, so the sisters from her community brought her to Carolus Hospital Jakarta. In the evening sister had trouble breathing and needed oxygen support, and her consciousness decreased. Sister underwent treatment in the ICU and was put on a ventilator. On the morning of December 04, she received the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. After that, a pacemaker was inserted. Sister also underwent dialysis and received a blood transfusion. On December 8, in the early morning, she returned to the Giver of eternal life.
