From November 11 to November 20, the sisters at the Motherhouse had an opportunity to “Encounter the Word” and they participated in a sixteen hour Scripture Course offered by Dr. Margaret Ralph from Lexington, Kentucky.

Margie is currently the Director of the Masters in Pastoral Studies degree program for the Roman Catholics at Lexington Theological Seminary.  She is a 30 year diocesan retiree and has been involved in education in the dioceses of Covington and Lexington in both catechetical and academic settings: as a teacher at Lexington Catholic High School, at the University of Kentucky, and at the Seminary; as well as in parish adult education, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), and evangelization programs. She is the author of 14 books on Scripture some which have been translated into Korean and Portuguese.

The course was based on Margie’s first book, And God Said What? It covered how to read the Bible as a contextualist becoming aware of the literary forms used by the Scripture writers and the audience they are addressing.  The course was taped and will eventually be published in the SND Resource Center.  It was a rich experience for all involved.
